Day one of the qualifiers for the International Championships got underway in Preston with some of the games biggest names fighting it out for a space at the main event.
First and foremost, the headline act Ronnie O’Sullivan was in action against the young James Cahill. O’Sullivan was clearly cueing better than we’ve seen recently and it showed with breaks of 71, 88 and 74 which gave him an early lead of 5-1. But it was James Cahill who fought back well by winning three frames in a row, but inevitably it was O’Sullivan who won the match by 6-4.
Former World Champion Ken Doherty was in mighty form in his match against Allan Taylor making breaks of 68, 74 and a 138 to win the match comfortably by 6-2.
Other Players to get through the first round of the qualifiers included Ricky Walden, Mark Williams, Martin Gould, Graeme Dott, Anthony McGuill, just to name a few.
Lots more matches are due to take place and plenty more big names such as Mark Selby, Stuart Bingham, Neil Robertson etc.
