It’s a disaster: Lots of big names expelled from English Open

It has been nothing short of a disastrous day for some players at the English Open in Manchester as a lot of the top players have been knocked out.

Yesterday we saw world number 1, Mark Selby being knocked out along with Shaun Murphy the previous evening with Stephen Maguire.

The biggest blows came today though as the headline player, Ronnie O’Sullivan was sent packing by Chris Wakelin. Neil Robertson lost from being 3-0 up on Xiao Guodong 4-3, Mark Allen was seen off by Yan Bingtao and Ding Junhui lost to Jak Jones.

This extraordinary loss for the English open will no doubt capture the attention of the other players still left in the competition. These include, Judd Trump (winner of the European championships last week), Stuart Bingham, Kyren Wilson and Ali Carter along with some of the up and coming players.

One thing is for sure though, Judd Trump is now the very strong favourite to win this week, but it’s too soon to rule out any of the others.

With the loss of so many big names so far this week, we ask if the players could be suffering from exhaustion. Looking at the players who have gone out early this week, most of them have reached the latter stages of the European championships last week which could possibly have caused tiredness seeing as that event has rolled into this one with no break in between,
