It’s day 1 of the European Masters from Romania and there was some fantastic play during the first two sessions of the morning and afternoon.
The first player to race into the next round was John Higgins after a comprehensive win 4-0 defeat over Michael Holt. In true vintage Higgins style, the Scot was relentless and never let his opponent in. In the first frame Higgins made a 118 break followed by some good tactical play in the second and third frame and then a break of 104 to finish the match off.
Anthony McGill dispatched Ali Carter back home after a fantastic match between these great players. Breaks of 61 and 71 from Carter were not enough to compete against an in-form McGill who made breaks of 95, 54, 65 and 107. In the deciding frame, Carter did have his chance but it was McGuill who defended him off to complete a 4-3 victory.
Elsewhere two former world champions Neil Robertson and Graeme Dott battled it out for a place in the next round. Despite Dott playing very well and scoring breaks of 57, 73, 53 and 87, it was Neil Robertson who dominated most of the match and made breaks of 71, 53, 70 and finished with a 112 century.
Barry Hawkins was pushed all the way as he struggled against Michael Wild. It was a scrappy affair right down to the last frame where Hawkins eventually took the match.
Later today Mark Selby will be in action against Fergal O’Brien and Ronnie O’Sullivan takes on Daniel Wells.
