Most of the big names have managed to qualify for the European Masters in Preston this week and will now go on to Romania to battle it out in the final rounds of the event.
John Higgins pulled off some wizardry from 3-0 down to Jimmy Robertson only to come back and win 4-3. Breaks of 77 and 69 helped Higgins take back the defict to 3-3 and a break of 53 from Higgins was enough to seal his win.
Elsewhere Ronnie O’Sullivan won his match against Lyu Chenwei by 4-1 although the score line could have been much closer. O’Sullivan will no doubt have to step it up a gear in Romania, but word has it that he has put off some of his upcoming exhibitions to focus on tournament play.
Shaun Murphy made a 147 on his way to a 4-0 victory over Allan taylor and as a result, picked up the £11,000 rolling maximum break prize.
The biggest shock of the qualifiers has been the loss of 2015 World Champion and world No.2 Stuart Bingham who was at one stage 3-0 up on Scott Donaldson only to lose by 4-3. Donaldson played very well to get back into the match with break of 76 and 90 and then went on to win it with a 53 break.
The European Masters begins on the 3rd of October
