Mark Selby, Stuart Bingham, Ali Carter and Mark Williams have all progressed through their first round matches at the UK snooker championship in York Today.
Double World Champion and current No.1 in the world, Mark Selby, had an impressive 6-1 victory over Andy Hicks. With an an impressive series of breaks, Selby was able to coast through his first round match.
Mark Selby decided not to play in last week’s Northern Ireland Open in order to prepare for his UK championship campaign. With breaks today of 88, 93, 59 and 100, Selby appears to be in good shape to contest the title.
Elsewhere, Stuart Bingham, who also declined playing last week at the Northern Ireland Open, also had a fantastic opening round match against Polish born Adam Stefanow. Bingham impressed the crowds of the Barbican centre with breaks of 70, 127, 108, 72 and 70 to claim a whitewash victory over his opponent.
Ali Carter had a blinder of a match against Christoper Keogan, almost whitewashing the young English player but ended up 6-1 at the end. Breaks of 66, 100, 74, 62, 111 and 68 was more than enough to make his presence heard at York.
Mark Williams progressed to the next round by beating Jason Weston 6-1. Although Williams didn’t play at his very best, he managed to secure a decisive win over his inexperienced opponent.
Some of the other players progressing include; Stephen Maguire, Andrew Higginson, Dominic Dale, Graeme Dott and Jamie Jones.
This evening will see reigning UK champion, Neil Robertson play his first round match. The Aussie will be up against Peter Lines.
