Shaun Murphy put on a masterclass show of snooker this evening in the players championship, beating Dominic Dale by 4-1. Murphy quickly took the first 2 frames in under 13 minutes and then took the third frame. An unlucky bounce off the side cushion in the fourth frame caused Murphy to lose position and then Dale got in and won the frame.
Murphy then took the fifth frame with a century to claim victory and beat Dale 4-1. We had it all tonight with great potting, big breaks and brilliant positional play by Murphy. He truly lived up to the name “magician” this evening.
Murphy will now face Ben Woolaston in the quarter finals. Going by this evenings performance, he is our favourite to take the players championship title, only two weeks after winning the Grand Prix.
Elsewhere, Barry Hawkins beat Robert Milkins in yet another final frame decider. The final frame started well for Milkins, managing to get a healthy lead in the frame but a mistake by Milkin’s, hitting the blue, gave Hawkins a free ball where he managed to dish up and win the match.
Barry Hawkins will now face Ding Junhiu in the quarter finals.
