Round 2 of the Scottish Open saw big names such as Ronnie O’Sullivan, Jimmy White, John Higgins, Judd Trump and Neil Robertson breeze into the third round
UK Championship finalist, Ronnie O’Sullivan was the headline act of the day as he beat the aspiring Polish snooker player, Adam Stefanow 4-1.
It wasn’t pretty snooker from the five time World Champion as he was missing easy shots and giving his opponent multiple chances which Stefanow failed to capitalize on. With the highest break of the match being 78, O’Sullivan has some improvement to make when he takes on his pal, Jimmy White in the next round.
There was a return to form from the ‘Whirlwind’ Jimmy White as he beat Ryan Day 4-0 in a very impressive display of snooker from the veteran 54 year old.
It was clear that Ryan Day wasn’t playing good snooker, but Jimmy White took his opportunities and made breaks of 57,73 and 65 to secure a 4-0 win.
With Jimmy White’s position on the main tour under threat (currently placed 100 in the world), a good run here at the Scottish Open could see the 6 time World Championship finalist climb the rankings again.
This will be the second time O’Sullivan and White have played each other in the last month, with O’Sullivan beating the White 4-1 at the Northern Irish Trophy last month.
John Higgins was in mighty form, beating Scot Donaldson 4-0 in a high scoring match for Higgins. With breaks of 52, 101, 83 and 66, the home favourite looks set to contest the title this week.
Elsewhere, other big names to progress included; Judd Trump saw off Igor Figueiredo 4-0, Neil Robertson beat Gary Wilson 4-2 and Mark Williams beat Michael Holt 4-1.
Recently crowned Northern Ireland Trophy Champion, Mark King was trashed 4-1 by Sean O’Sullivan, Graeme Dott beaten by Mark Davis 4-0, Matthew Stevens beaten by Barry Hawkins and Ali Carter beaten by Chris Wakelin,
