Results from the first quarter final matches and second round matches at the Shanghai Masters today.

Mark Selby got himself over the line against Stuart Carrington today. Selby started off well with a break of 87 but lost the second despite making a 58 break. Selby then went two frames in front by making breaks of 120 and 73, but Carrington responded with his own break of 73. Selby the opened a two frame advantage again but Carrington brought it back to 4-3.
The next frame went very scrappy, but it was Selby who came out on top to win the match 5-3.

On the other table, Stephen Maguire was in action against Barry Hawkins. Although this match lacked the big breaks we have seen from Maguire this week, the Scot showed some great tactical battles against Hawkins. Maguire took a 4-1 lead, but Hawkins brought it back to 4-3 with breaks of 72 and 66 in quick succession. Ultimately Maguire won the next frame to defeat Hawkins 5-3 with a break of 91. Maguire will now play Trump or Michael White in the next round.

Stuart Bingham booked his place in the next round of the Shanghai Masters today, beating David Gilbert by 5-2. Struggling with form over the past year, Bingham stills holds onto second in the world. Although the match against Gilbert was lacking fireworks, Bingham had the better positional play and tactical game to see of his opponent. Bingham will now face either Ali Carter or John Higgins in the next round.

Ryan Day continued his good form today against Mei Xi Wen, winning 5-2. Although the Chinese player came out and won the first frame with a break of 79, it was Ryan Day who mostly dominated the rest of the match with impressive breaks of 55, 102, 107 and 82. Day will now play Selby in the next round.

Later today Ronnie O’Sullivan is back in action against Michael Holt along with other big names such as Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and John Higgins.
