It was one of the most anticipated matches of the season so far between two of snooker’s top players, Mark Selby and Ronnie O’Sullivan. Snooker fans love thrilling matches and just what we got today in the final.
In the opening session earlier this afternoon, O’Sullivan got himself off to a good start by taking the first frame with a break of 124. Mark Selby stuck with the genius snooker player and levelled up by taking a long second frame. Third and fourth frames were shared but from there, Selby opened up a gap of 4 frames to lead 6-2 going into the evening session.
In the evening session, Ronnie O’Sullivan had it all to do, but losing the first frame of the night to Selby didn’t help matters and trailed 7-2.
Selby then made a few unforced errors which gave O’Sullivan the opportunity he so desperately needed.
From there O’Sullivan played awesome, taking three frames in a row to bring the match back to 7-5. Selby replied with a break of 137, but O’Sullivan struck again to take the next 2 frames with breaks of 130 and 82.
From 8-7 down, Selby went to a new level and made 2 more centuries to win his second UK Championship title.
In the post match interview, O’Sullivan said;
“I just want to say well done to Mark Selby he played fantastic today, he deserved it.
“I enjoyed today, the crowd have been fantastic. I scored alright but i missed too many easy balls.
The new UK Champion, Mark Selby said;
“To play Ronnie in any game is always a great atmosphere and give you a buzz.
“I had to be on the top of my game, and if i had only played at 60% then i wouldn’t have won.
“In my eyes Ronnie and Stephen Hendry are still two of the greatest players to play the game. It’s a fantastic feeling to play him in the final.
