Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Mark Williams 6-2 this evening in their quarter final match at York which lacked fireworks from either snooker player
It was clear from the first few shots that Ronnie O’Sullivan lacked the ruthless scoring power that we’ve seen in every match from him this week in York. Despite losing position often, a few tactical errors and silly misses, O’Sullivan did well to get to the mid session interval at 2-2.
But Mark Williams was also failing to capitalise on his chances throughout the snooker match. Granted, Williams has struggled with inconsistency for a while now, but in order to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan, top players such as Williams must not miss easy balls, or lack in safety play.
After the interval, O’Sullivan came back out a changed player, but still not at his very best. Breaks of 64, 60 ans 78 along with some good tactical frames saw the Rocket breeze past an inconsistent Williams to book his place in the final 4 tomorrow.
In a interview after the match, a positive O’Sullivan said;
“I made some good break and played some good safety to put him under pressure. I had to keep powering away and i felt i had to much for him.”
“I’m sure my game will get stronger. I am a fighter and will keep fighting until that happens.”
On the other snooker table, Marco Fu went the entire distance with Jamie Jones in a 6-5 win to Fu.
Marco Fu found himself 5-2 behind Jones and looked like he’d be going home.
Fu managed to improve his game to start ticking off frames to come back and defeat Jones 6-5 in yet another snooker match that’s gone the full distance.
Jamie Jones said after the match;
“Its a bitter pill to swallow.”
Ronnie O’Sullivan will now play Marco Fu in their semi final and Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy are in the other.
