Mark Selby has sent Liang Wenbo home after a corker of a match at the snooker International Championships in China today
What a fantastic session of snooker seen today at the International Championships last 16 in China today on all tables.
The first match and the one that had the most eyes on was between World No.1 Mark Selby and the new English Open Champion, Liang Wenbo. The frames were mainly split between both players throughout the match, each making frame winning contributions throughout the match.
Both of these players were in great form on the table and it was no wonder that it came down to a decider.
The final frame started off nervously from both players. Liang did manage to score 31 points, but a nice break of 69 from Mark Selby was enough to take the frame and match. Final score 6-5 Selby.
World No.2 Stuart Bingham faced Ali Carter, which was always going to be a good match. It was Bingham in the best form as he stormed into a 3-1 lead going into the interval. From there he went on to win the rest of the frames to make a decisive win over the captain. Final score 6-1.. Although there was no century breaks, Stuart Bingham appears to be in great form and certainly a contender for this title.
Another player in great form today was Shaun Murphy who beat Sam Baird 6-1. Although Sam started the match well with a break of 106 in the first, it was Murphy who dominated the rest of the proceedings. Breaks of 64, 101 and 86 from the magician helped secure his spot in the final 8.
The final match of the morning was between John Higgins and the young Chinese man, Zhou Yuelong. Although the match lacked fireworks, it was Higgins with his experience that managed to control things on the snooker table. Match result 6-2 Higgins.
Later this afternoon Ronnie O’Sullivan will be in action against Michael Holt.
