Neil Robertson is the latest victim of the Shanghai Masters as he loses to Ryan Day by 5-2.
In a somewhat scrappy performance from both players, it was Ryan Day who came out on top despite being the underdog going into today’s match against the Aussie. Neil Robertson has struggled with his performances lately and this is another early exit from a big tournament.
Stuart Bingham got off to a good start today as he had a convincing win over Jamie Jones in the Shanghai Masters, winning 5-0. With Breaks of 54, 112 and 124, the 2015 World Champion looks in fine form this week despite struggling in recently.
Bingham who struggled since winning the World Championships in 2015 still maintains his world No.2 spot and a good run here at the Shanghai Masters could put him well clear of No.3, Shaun Murphy who is hot on his heels. Bingham will now play David Gilbert in the next round.
On the other table, Ali Carter saw off Kurt Maflin, beating him by 5-1. Although not vintage Carter, breaks of 53 and a 104 was good enough to secure his win. Carter will now play John Higgins in the next round which will be a very interesting match-up with two great break-builders and tacticians.
The silent assassin, Barry Hawkins cruised his way into the last sixteen, taking out Robert Milkins by 5-0. Breaks of 50, 78 and 81 was enough to win over an out of form Milkins. Hawkins will now play either Shaun Murphy or Stephen Maguire in the next round.
Later today Mark Williams is in action against Mei Xiwen and Joe Perry is up against Stuart Carrington
