Shaun Murphy “The Magician” is on of the top players in todays snooker era. He first burst onto the snooker scene at the start of the 00’s but his big breakthrough came when he dramatically won the 2005 world championships in Sheffield as a qualifier.
Born August 10th 1982 in Harlow, England, Shaun Murphy started playing snooker at the age of 7. During his teens, Murphy decided to leave school to concentrate on his snooker career, a risky move that has proven to pay itself off.
He is married to an Irish Biochemist, Elaine O’Reilly.
Noted for his straight cue action and great break building, Murphy is one of the strongest players on the snooker tour. He is one of the few players that holds the triple crown by winning the 2015 masters, the 2008 UK championships and the 2005 world championships.
Shaun Murphy has also been in two other world finals to which he lost. In total Murphy has won 7 ranking titles.
In 2016 Shaun Murphy won the Grand Prix, beating Stuart Bingham 10-9 in the final.
