udd Trump defeated Shaun Murphy 6-5 in a magnificent snooker match which had everything from centuries to a black ball finish.
The match between Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy always promised to be a good one and it did not disappoint. The standard seen today by these flamboyant snooker players was as high as its gets. Three centuries from Trump and multiple other frame winning breaks from both players gave the Chinese crowd a brilliant display of snooker.
Most of the way through the frames were shared however there was a point where Murphy took a 5-3 lead. Trump responded well with a breaks of 74 and 119 to force the deciding frame.
The final frame was everything a snooker fan could hope for. Both players had their chances and both missed balls. It was Murphy who had a decent lead coming down to the colours where things really got edgy for both players and eventually it came down to a black ball match. After some good safety on the final black it was Trump who ended up potting it and winning the match 6-5.
On the other table Ding Junhui had a brilliant morning on the snooker table today against John Higgins. The home favourite looked a little bit shaky to start with as Higgins rushed himself into a 2-0 lead. Following on from there it was all one way traffic as Ding took the next six frames to progress into the semi finals. Magnificent play from the home favourite with breaks of 70, 81, 56, 104, 130 and 63 was to good for Higgins as he was totally outplayed. Ding is certainly the man to watch out for this week.
Can Ding win here again on home soil?
Later today Stuart Bingham will take on Michael Holt and Mark Selby plays Joe Perry in the other quarter final line up.
