Mark Selby glides through Zhang Anda 6-1 while Marco Fu ends the hopes of Oliver Lines by whitewashing the youngster 6-0 in a forgettable snooker match
Mark Selby is probably the toughest snooker competitor of the modern era and his No.1 ranking in the world reflects his ability to play the game. Not only is he a prolific break builder, but also one of the best tacticians on the circuit.
So far in the UK championship, Selby has thrashed Robert Milkins in the last round but had a scare against Daniel Wells in the round before which he then overcame.
Tonight, Selby was on fire again, making 2 century breaks and rock solid tactical play to overcome his opponent, Zhang Anda, by 6-1.
In his post match interview Selby said;
“I feel my form is getting better. Its probably been my best game so far in the tournament.
“Obviously i made a few mistakes, but Anda missed a few balls but besides that i played quite well”.
Selby then joked; “I picked my tempo up a bit, but i’m probably still slow”.
Mark Selby is now poised to play either John Higgins or Mark Allen in the quarter finals. Commenting on this Selby said;
“It don’t get any easier, I played Mark twice this year and he beat me 6-5 in both. John is obviously one of the all time greats in the game. It will be a tough game between those two, but whoever comes through, I’ll have a tough game myself”.
On the other snooker table tonight, Oliver Lines hopes of reaching the quarter final of the UK Championship was dashed as Marco Fu demolished the 21 year old 6-0 in a disappointing performance from Lines.
Lines had a horrible match as he missed so many chances. It wasn’t vintage snooker from Marco Fu by any standards, but there was glimpses of good form as he made one break of 118 during the match.
Oliver Lines will no doubt be disappointed with the result tonight, but he has so many positives to take away from the UK championships, the best being a win over world No.3, Judd Trump earlier in the week.
Marco Fu will now awaits the result of David Gilbert and Jamie Jones tomorrow to see which of these players he will play in the quarter finals on Friday.
