Judd Trump and John Higgins will meet in the semi-final of the Scottish Open tomorrow following decisive wins today in the quarter final
Earlier today John Higgins saw off Ronnie O’Sullivan by 5-2 in a mixed-bag type of match, not helped by poor table conditions.
It was then Judd Trump’s turn as he faced Robert Milkins later in the afternoon. Overall the match was of poor standard as neither player excelled, but it was Trump who slipped ahead to win the match 5-3.
In a post match interview Trump said; “The table was player very tough. It was one of those games i was happy to get through.”
The TV table has been scrutinized by many of the players over the past couple of days, with complaints being made about big bounces and cushion quality. John Higgins was very vocal about the table in the post match interview on Eurosport earlier today.
The good news is that the table is being recovered with a news cloth tonight, so players should enjoy better snooker conditions tomorrow as the semi final matches get underway.
The pick of the semi final matches tomorrow has got to be between John Higgins and Judd Trump. These great players couldn’t be more evenly matched at the moment, Higgins being 4th in the world, while Trump 5th.
Some might think that the winner of these two is favourite to win this snooker tournament, but while they may be correct, it’s actually another semi-finalist, Marco Fu, who has been the best snooker player of the week knocking in centuries for fun.
Tonight the man from Hong-Kong defeated Mark Davis 5-1 in a wonderful display of snooker. Clearly motivated and confident in his new cue-action technique, Fu made breaks of 53, 132, 62 and made a wonderful clearance of 67 to win the final frame of the match by a single point.
Marco Fu will now play either Yu Delu or Liang Wenbo in the semi final tomorrow.
