It is quarter final day here today at the Shanghai Masters and despite some of the big names such as O’Sullivan, Trump, Robertson etc being knocked out early on, the standard of players left has been fantastic.
Mark Selby took on Ryan Day who has shown good form this week with some high scoring, but as ever, Selby is a formidable opponent to face. And true to form, Selby grinded the match out with some wizardry safety play, not letting Day in too often to score heavy.
Ryan Day did get his chance to score heavy in the third frame, knocking in a break of 98 but it was Selby who quickly accumulated a 4-1 lead. Despite Ryan day clawing back two frames in a row to go 4-3 down, it was Selby who kept the next frame tightest and closed off the match to win 5-3.
Stuart Bingham was the first man to book his place in the semi final of the Shanghai Masters today as he defeated Ali Carter 5-1 in a good performance.
Carter never really got going today, failing to capitalise on the numerous chances he was given by Bingham. With the biggest breaks of the match being 58 and 91, Bingham will have to step it up a notch if he wants to win over Selby in the Semi final tomorrow.
Later today Michael Holt, who took out O’Sullivan yesterday is up against Ding Junhui and Michael White is taking on Stephen Maguire.
